I answer to: Leah, Ms Owens, Ms Leah, and now - - 1 year ago today- - Dr Owens and Dr Leah.

I'm not sure what I would have done had my dissertation defense been postponed, or worse, cancelled. I was one of the very first to defend their dissertation virtually. And while I'm so grateful that accommodations were made, and more special, that so many of my friends and family logged in to that zoom meeting 😍, many of whom would not have been able to bear witness otherwise, I still mourn the loss of not being able to truly celebrate. I was alone in my apartment, no hugs or kisses, no cake or toasts.

Today, I acknowledge my accomplishment wasn't any less, and that when I do get to celebrate in the manner I deserve, it'll be for this and each other win along the way.

One year down, a lifetime to go!
